I made my first account when I was 18, because the rules also state that you need to be 18 unless you have permission before that age to join

And I quote:

"Section II: Additional Terms

13. Registration
To register as a member of the Service or purchase products, you must be 18 years or lawfully permitted to enter into and form contracts under applicable law."

I guess the "or lawfully permitted to enter into and form contracts under applicable law" would refer to getting parental permission and supervision to sign up between 13-18.

*i was so exited i got up at like 7 in the morning to make it xD*

i probably would of made it when i was 12 if i hadn't found out that *SplashKittyArtist's dA got deleted because she was under age. she got it back when she was 13 though.

I did join the site when i was under aged by threat by some people but i never started even using the account really till i turned 13. Does that count? i am 14 now and i probably should not really be saying my age but really, i can see what you are saying and ive seen 8 year olds on here drawing very bad things. seriously. I reported my cousin for that. like he was doodling like sexual things as well and was using this site for its ore mature stuff. Really. Like they are ruining their childhood (ive never been able to really have one due to personal reasons) and then abusing the older people on this site. I really wonder. I agree to report the under aged users.

I may have been on here a half of a year before i could legally join but really.

these kids i dont even know what to day i am just rambling at this point.

They actually respond really quickly to COPPA reports if you provide the proper evidence. I've gotten tons of underagers removed from the site. Never had a problem with DA admins ignoring underaged reports.

I made my first account when I was nine. Though, I didn't read the rules and didn't exactly presume there would be an age limit. After uploading a few pictures back then, I got bored within less than a few days and left until now, at age thirteen, to make an entirely different account. I think it's not exactly fair to blame the under-aged children here on DA for joining; after all, not all of them have the awareness, like I didn't back then. I understand why these things are being said but flaming them isn't exactly going to help because they'll ignore you anyway. :/

I was... 12 when I made my first account and I think I quit after a year and came back when I was 13 then continued from here... I swear to the Gods if dA shuts down because of immature IDIOTS who think they can just waltz in here and do what they want. I will do so many things to get my revenge it won't even be funny! This site is my LIFE. and all my good and old artwork is posted here. If this goes down then I lose just about 4-6 years of my freaking life.

I completely understand this. Though under-aged deviants are on,yes, most should be reported. The one's who actually aren't mature enough. But I believe this is a place for people to share their passion for art,no matter the age.

while I'd like to agree with the statement
" I believe this is a place for people to share their passion for art,no matter the age."

The terms and conditions are a legally binding contract in themselves. So just as you would never get away with getting a 6 year to sign a legally binding contract, you wouldn't get them to join DA either. This site also handles money transactions, no body under 13 will have access to their own credit card or even a job, so if they did go purchasing stuff, even if it was their parents card if they did it without permission it'd be theft, so that would be another problem.

The parent's of the child are very irresponsible to let their children join dA.I agree they must be 13 or older to join,me being 13 of course,I made that mistake of joining when I was 10. I just hope dA keeps going.

*sigh* 'Having fun' and doing it because 'alot of people do' doesn't cut it. Guys, this is like the hypothetical one person says jump off a cliff everyone does it, and this has REAL consequences. Not only does it ruin your 'fun', but you are responsible for ending many people CAREERS (many artists get a good amount for commissions). Not only that but you remove from the world a source of amazing talent where like-minded people come together to create AMAZING things. A rule's a rule. It doesn't matter if you aren't in the US, or so-and-so does it, it's there for your protection OF YOU. Do you know how many perverted psychopaths post stuff on here, how they can undermine your better judgement and -God forbid- make you look at something immoral or influence you in a wrong way? And because you are younger and aren't 100% savvy on the world (I know you think you know it all, I was and still am there in a way) you are prone to making HUGE mistakes that could literally change your life's forever.

If you are underage, delete your account, work hard to improve your work and jump back in when you are mature and better at age 13. Not onjly will you feel better about it, but you take a step to making Deviantart a better place and keeping it alive along with the time and effort of those lawfully residing here. Because if DA shut down tomorrow because of too many underage users, you would be racked with guilt for a long time. Why? Because it WAS your fault.

Well there sadly is a huge problems with this, i met someone that was like 10 on here, i told them about the age law and they said it was for their south park roleplaying account and sent me a link to their actual one that said they were like in their 20s or so. A lot of people make a new account and change their age for roleplaying....but i forgot the government doesn't understand roleplaying ><

I really wish their parents had better control of their kids. I bet they wouldn't let them on this site if they knew just how this site was. (Other than those who don't even care and shouldn't even have kids.) My kids aren't discovering the internet until they are 13.

COPPA is only for US based sites, yes. DA is based in the United states. Hence all their users are required to follow the rules, regardless of their location in the world. DA makes the rules. You want to be on the site, follow em. yeh?

Really? I doubt that... There are millions of deviants- who's not gonna say that 30% are under age? I actually made an account when I was 12 (17 now) though maybe the deviant count was smaller then? No sure. I remember them having a deviant count on the front page that was already well over 1 million.

Maybe find some sites where underaged users are allowed on and you all join?
That way if they DO get banned you can still have ways to communicate with them?
